چکیده

This paper presents a methodology for performing architectural analyses of complex systems of systems using process modeling. A process is a series of actions undertaken by a system of systems to produce one or more end results, typically products and services. The method applies to systems-of systems whose effectiveness and performance depend strongly on process timelines, such as distributed information systems, logistics systems and manufacturing and distribution systems. A fundamental tool in this method is the development of a unified modeling language (UML) related view of the system-of-system processes of interest and the subsequent conversion of the UML related view into an end-to-end system of systems executable object-oriented simulation model. The Naval Postgraduate School has developed this methodology over the past ten years and has successfully applied it to a range of systems of systems studies. The methodology is illustrated by applying process modeling and simulation to analysis of an expeditionary warfare system of systems and a joint combat identification (CID) system. Work currently underway to apply the methodology to the analysis of a multinational maritime domain protection (MDP) system is described. Issues associated with systems of systems engineering analyses and future work are also discussed.

Probabilistic Contaminant Source Identification in Water Distribution Infrastructure Systems

Large water distribution systems can be highly vulnerable to penetration of contaminant factors caused by different means including deliberate contamination injections. As contaminants quickly spread into a water distribution network, rapid characterization of the pollution source has a high measure of importance for early warning assessment and disaster management. In this paper, a methodology...

Removal of Diazinon from Aqueous Solutions in Batch Systems Using Cu-modified Sodalite zeolite: An Application of Response Surface Methodology

In this work, perlite was used as a low-cost source of Si and Al in the synthesis of sodalite zeolite using hydrothermal synthesis method. Cu2O nanoparticles were coated on a bed of sodalite zeolite and used as an adsorbent for removal of diazinon from aqueous solutions. To analyze the process, a significant variable .i.e. removal efficiency (%) of diazinon and three dependent parameters as the...

Phosphorus Removal from Dairy Wastewater in Batch Systems under Simultaneous Aerobic/Anaerobic Conditions: Application of Response Surface Methodology

The objective of this paper is simultaneous of aerobic and anaerobic process for phosphorus removal from a dairy wastewater. The system consists of a granular sequencing batch reactor (SBR) working under alternating aerobic/anaerobic conditions. In order to analyze the process, four significant variables viz. MLSS, COD/N ratio, aeration time and cycling time and four dependent parameters as the...
